The Aspiring Athletes Club would like to welcome all new and returning athletes to the 2020-21 athletics season. The club offers competitive and non-competitive training and competition through a summer and winter programme.
Spring is a season of change, if you are looking to try new skills, make new friends or even get a little competitive then Athletics could be for you. Come and join in the fun this athletics season!
Why is Athletics training so good for school kids?
Athletics training develops the personality traits of: teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, physical endurance, commitment, time management, and personal and emotional health, not to mention having fun!
Training in any sport helps children to develop mental and physical toughness it shapes their body and make them strong and active. It’s also a fun and healthy way to be social.
All primary and high school children are welcome to join our club and participate in fun activities at our weekly club nights held at the Wanaka Recreational Centre grounds on Thursday afternoons, starting 29th October 2020. If you are a returning athlete you can re-register now by clicking on the Athletics link below or pop along on our first night and have a chat with our coaches.
Club nights are Thursdays 4.30pm – 5.30 pm Term 4 2020 and Term 1 2021. Additional training days and nights are available – please see below.
Our ‘Get So Go’ coaching program targets our 5-6yr olds whilst the Run Jump Throw style of coaching is designed for our 7-11yr olds. Both coaching practices create a foundation for correct movement techniques in athletic activities.
For those children aged 11 and above the main focus is still on enjoyment but those who are keen are able to focus more on the competitive aspect of athletics.
