The Aspiring Athletes Club would like to welcome all new and returning athletes to the 2021-22 athletics season where we offer competitive and non-competitive training and competition.
Thursday Club Nights throughout Summer (October to March) which comprises of:
- Get Set Go for 5 & 6 year olds 4.30pm – 5.15pm
- Run Jump Throw for 7 – 14 yrs 4.30 – 5.30 (with additional coaching available for Competitive Grade registered athletes within this age band from 5.30 – 6pm)
Professional coaching is available through the winter with senior coaches for identified athletes.

Why is Athletics training so good for school kids?
Athletics training develops the personality traits of: teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, physical endurance, commitment, time management, and personal and emotional health. It’s also a fun and exclusive way to have fun and learn new skills that build a foundation
for many other sports. Training in any sport helps children to develop mental and physical toughness; it shapes their body and make them strong and active. It’s also a fun and healthy way to be social.

All primary and high school children are welcome to join our club and participate in fun activities at our weekly club nights held at the Wanaka Recreational Centre grounds* on Thursday afternoons, starting on 21st October 2021. *PLEASE NOTE: Due to ongoing field maintenance at Three Parks in October, the first month of our season will be held at the MAC Sports Grounds for ages 5+. For private lessons please speak with your coach.
What is Get Set Go?
Get Set Go is a fun initiative which allows kids to develop the essential movement skills they need to make participation in games and sport more fun and successful, including:
- Physical movement skills
- Knowledge and cognitive skills
- Emotional and social skills
What is Run Jump Throw?
Run Jump Throw is all about developing athletics-specific skills in a fun, inclusive way that encourages kids’ to participate in athletics. This innovative programme for Grades 7+ uses a bottom-up rather than a top-down approach to teach skills needed for each athletics movement – so children learn the necessary fundamental skills and basic movement patterns before being taught the refined skills.
Run Jump Throw creates an enjoyable environment where children learn at their own pace and gain confidence and overall competence in athletics skills.

Points Evening @ our Club Nights
Every 3rd week at our Club Night we will run a fun and inclusive ‘Points Evening’. All members will be able to take part in events and have their race times recorded or throws measured. Points achieved will go towards overall club placings over the season.
To run a quality competition night, we ask parents to help with timing and measuring once every three weeks. Please contact us in advance to help with the competition night.
Competitive Squad Training
Distance running, Sprints, High Jump & Long Jump training is offered by specialised coaches for Athletes focussing on personal performance goals and interclub competitions.
