The Aspiring Athletes Club would like to welcome all new and returning athletes to the 2019-20 athletics season. The club offers competitive and non-competitive training and competition through a summer and winter programme.
Spring is a season of change, if you are looking to try new skills, make new friends or even get a little competitive then Athletics could be for you. Come and join in the fun this athletics season!
Why is Athletics Training so good for school kids?
Athletics training develops the personality traits of: teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, physical endurance, commitment, time management, and personal and emotional health.
Training in any sport helps children to develop mental and physical toughness it shapes their body and make them strong and active. It’s also a fun and healthy way to be social.
Non-Competitive Club Nights
All primary and high school children are welcome to join the club and participate in fun activities at our weekly club nights held at the Wanaka Recreational Centre grounds on Thursday afternoons.
Thursdays 4.30pm – 5.30 pm Term 4 2019 and Term 1 2020
Coaching programs are designed to be appropriate to the ages and needs of the athlete.

17th October 2019 with coaching sessions on sprint starts, and the basics of High Jump and Discus.
New Location and Format:
We are moving from the MAC Oval to the Wanaka Recreational Centre this season and will be running a new format, a three week rotation of Run, Jump and Throw; coaching two-weeks and competition in those events the third week.

Competition Club Nights:
To run a quality competition night, we ask parents to help with timing and measuring once every three weeks.

Competitive Squad Training
Distance running, Sprints, High Jump & Long Jump training is offered by specialised coaches for Athletes focussing on personal performance goals and interclub competitions.
In an exciting development this year we are now hiring the new grass track at the Wanaka Recreational Centre for specialized training sessions.
